For those of you who are keeping track, me and Elder Lucus served together in Ayat when I first moved there. He is from Ghana. So, this will be our second time serving together and we are both happy and ready to work!  Let’s hop into this week

Today was pretty good! I was so tired!  We ended up having 0 lessons, but an interested guy came to family home evening and had a good time! It can be frustrating with no lessons; however, it was nice to have someone interested that came to FHE. Hopefully we can sit down and teach him soon.  Also, in a funny small world connection.  My cousin Eliza Alley is serving in Denmark, and she had a friend that they were teaching.  However, he does not speak good Danish because he just immigrated from Ethiopia.  So, she made an appointment to meet with me and my comp so we could help with the lessons and translation.  However, when we got on the phone together it turns out he speaks Tigrayan, a tribal language in Ethiopia that no missionaries here speak.  It was great to see and talk to her, but we had no luck helping with the translation.

Here are some pictures of our Family Home Evening at the church with some of the members.

A video too!

Pretty chill day! We went over to Efa’s house and taught an awesome lesson to his family, more specifically his parents.  After they asked us to play a card game called habesha.  It was fun.  card game with Efa and his family.  That night after we got home, I started feeling sick and it did not take long for me to realize that I had a terrible case of food poisoning.  I was up all night.  I have been out 9 months, and I guess I am fortunate that this is the first time I have had food poisoning.

May 14

We did nothing today as I was up last night until 2pm puking my guts out.  We had a member that checked on us.  My companion did not get sick which was good.  We ate at a restaurant for lunch yesterday. We eat out almost every lunch.  Our friend asked what I had eaten and what my companion had eaten.  I had the pasta and he had something that had to be cooked at ordering.  Our friend informed me that I should never order the pasta because they do not have to cook it fresh every day.  It is too difficult to know how long it had been out or if it had been frigerated.  The joy of eating in Africa.  Live and learn.  I will not eat that again as the memory of me being sick for three days will stay with me!

I was back at work. Not 100% and I doubt I will be eating anything today.  However, we went back to Efas home and helped him with some home projects! That afternoon we taught an English class and a bomb lesson with some new friends!  (That means it was good😊)

I woke up really early! I am having trouble sleeping right now hahaha but it’s ok! I am still battling my stomach and the reminder of THE PASTA!  Elder Melling and I received transfer news! I will be staying in Buryu another transfer and will be with Elder Lucus again! I am sad to see Elder Melling leave. However, President told us this was going to happen a few weeks ago.  It is hard to see a good thing go.  Elder Melling is on his last transfer and will be going home in June.  I am training my new companion on how to be a Zone leader as we will both be Zone leaders.  I have been a Zone Leader since I finished training.  It means more responsibility and challenges, but I enjoy it.

Sister Morris asked me to record my thoughts to share at the end of the year with her Bountiful High seminary students. I am posting it here to share too.

Good Sunday! We had lots of visits!  We played the habesha card game with 4 families after all our church meetings. Life here is a little different than home with regards to church. At home people all go to church and then when it is over we leave.  Here the church members stay for a long time after the meetings are done and visit and just enjoy each other’s company.  Life here is slower and connections are very important.  We had a fun time!  After church and our lessons and visiting I had to do my accounting for my zone leader responsibilities to get to President Cowley. This requires me to check in with all of the missionaries in my zone and then report back to President Cowley.   After all of this was done, I was tired and went home and chilled and called my parents for our weekly call.  Also, Ali (my girlfriend back home) Had her mission farewell and that was awesome to watch on zoom! She leaved for Calgary Canada this week.  Goodluck in the mission field ❤️

This is what happens at the end of the day after church when we have had a busy day, and someone catches us with their phone :)

May 18th

It was P-day.  I love P-day because the rest of the week we are out of our apartment all day and it is busy and so it is nice to have one day where we can just relax and chill.  That is pretty much what we did all day….Chilled!  I did, however, cook some stew. I am finally feeling better and have my appetite back. Elder Lucas arrived today and we both agreed, let’s hit the ground running! So, we are going to do just that! We can skip the awkward phase of getting to know you!
