HELLLOOOO EVERYONE! Welcome back to Ethiopia (via this email). I hope you are all well and that things are always blessed for all of you! Congratulations to Jackson Burgener for the farewell. You are awesome buddy.
Let’s hop into this week:
July 21st
Today was an awesome day! We had a member visit and 2 lessons! During these lessons we challenged two of our friends to baptism and they accepted and are we have them on date. Their names are Genet and her granddaughter who lives with her! It was an awesome and very productive day.
July 22nd
Today was good! We started the day by doing an exchange with the Burayu Elders! Getting the exchange started was hard but overall was good. Things here are not as simple as jumping in a car or making an appointment and then just arriving at an address. First, hardly anyone has cars. And addresses are nonexistent here. It is like we live close to the souk that is across from the school etc. Walk 5 minutes past the field with goats. Literally, most of Ethiopia has no addresses. This is something they are working to remedy but as you can imagine it is starting from the wealthy areas and then moving outward. Also, it took some time to get out of the door when we arrived at the Burayu Elders home because the Senior missionary couple was coming in the morning to perform an inspection of their apartment. This is when if it had been my apartment, I would have been cleaning alot the night before. But obviously, these Elders do not think the way I do. Maybe it is a cultural thing, who knows. But the apartment was GROSS! After they were given a reprimand, we left the apartment as it was not mine to clean. I still did the exchange with Elder John and then dropped him off that night and I am sure that they started the cleaning after I left. Or I sure hope they did.
July 23
Today we continued with the exchange. We had a goal to visit all our members (almost all) and it was amazing to see the wonderful people of Burayu. We have been working on strengthening the Burayu branch. Efa and his family, Tadlech and her kids and Dagim. It was amazing to see all of them and see their surprise when they saw me at the door! I love those families. That took most of our day. I said goodbye to Elder John and headed back to Saris with Elder Lucas (my real companion). BTW- It REALLY RAINED TODAY!
July 24th
Slower day, we taught two lessons and showed our friend Surafi the church (we are hoping he comes soon). He was curious about where we met and what does a church meeting look like. We hope that this visit will make it easier for him to come to church.
July 25th
Today was good! We went finding in the morning and afternoon with a member (on the side note hate finding but must do it 😁). I know that it is every missionary’s least favorite thing to do. Success always comes through referrals. After we were done for the day, we headed over to the church building, and we cleaned the church and then went over to one of our members, Christena.
July 26th
Awesome church Sunday! We had three friends pull up to church and we put another friend on baptismal date! So hopefully soon we will have some baptisms 🤞. In addition to these people, we had a child of record who had her baptismal interview and wants me to baptize her. She is very sweet; and it meant a lot to me that she asked that I do the baptism. I took a few pictures today of the inside of the church building.
July 27th
P-Day! Me and Elder Lucas are pretty tired, so we are just going to hang out and sleep, and do everything else that we need, clean, grocery shop etc. Nothing crazy. A funny video was making its way around the mission. We ride public transportation
everywhere. And the buses are so full. But you usually don't know until you have already entered. This funny video, the man says "Hey, are you full?" the person replies that there is plenty of room. You open up and it is like sardines. This is my life here when we get on a bus!
Anyway! That was my week! I saw some amazing miracles! Hopefully, this week will be just as good!
