I was set apart as a Missionary by President Vance on Monday, August 11th, 2025.

These were pictures of the night I was set apart.

Hello family and friends!

Not a lot to write about because I have only been here a couple of days. However! I finally have my companion for the next 9 weeks! He's amazing and fun to be around. Here is a picture of us together.

Today is Saturday and this is not my permanent P Day, we were given a 1/4 day to do some things we needed to get done, including writing this email and calling my mom to try and get on Facebook messenger. Apparently, because I was trying to get on Facebook from Africa it wanted authentication. This is a little difficult when all of my devices to do so are at home. However, we got it all figured out and I can communicate now on my next P-Day, which changes every week in the MTC.

Highlights:

During one of my layovers in the airport me and the other missionaries headed to Ghana ran into some returning missionaries. They talked to us about the " fourth missionary " which i thought was a really cool concept and thought! They explained that we can choose to be one of four types of missionaries, but the Fourth Missionary does not so aspire to become a "great" missionary; rather he aspires to be a "servant". He knows that "greatness" implies his performance in relation to others. He knows that the critical measure is his conduct in relation to his own abilities and in comparison, to his past performance. He is motivated by his desire to give himself and all that he is and has, to the Lord and to his work. "Whosoever will be great among you...shall be servant of all." He said: "For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." (Mark 10:43-44).

I've learned a bunch of phrases in Amharic, but I'll need to get better hahaha it's just an adventure! I met my teachers who are all really nice. I have learned how to say " the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints" in Amharic!

One of the best things is THERES A GYM HERE!!!!

Cons:

The jet lag is still hitting me and will for probs another day, it kind of stinks! For those of you who don't know, I left Tuesday evening on the red eye. I flew to Atlanta with a four-hour layover. Then to JFK 5-hour layover.  Then non-stop to Ghana via Delta Airlines. So, that meant I flew thru two nights on my time. I am still feeling it.

The food- I am not really used what they eat here, but I'm figuring out ways to make it work. It isn't bad it is just getting used to it. Overall, I am excited for everything waiting ahead of me!

Lastly, people here cannot pronounce Frasier..... lol

Til next time-
