Hey everyone! I reached 19, that is years if you are wondering! If you were to tell me I would spend the next two birthdays in the beautiful country where I was born, I wouldn’t have believed you. Nevertheless, I am so grateful to be here. Thank you to all of you who sent Birthday wishes! This week was a little less crazy and I’ll explain why. Let's jump into it.

Dec 29th (last p day)

Today was a good p day, Elder England and I went and bought some cool things for him.  It is his last week here and he wanted to get some things to take home. We had to bargain (England is not as good at bargaining as I am.) We got back later in the day and just hung out, slept and did our thing.  Pretty much a normal P-day for Ethiopia.

I literally did nothing most of the day! England had to go to immigration and had to get his exit visa to leave in the next week. So boring day. BUTTTT! We found this 1 cool guy named Abraham in the Meg area.  He came to family home evening in the 5 kilo which is another area in the mission (mine).  That was exciting.  However, we have met a lot of new friends and as we begin teaching we learn that they live out of our area, and we must hand them over to the missionaries in the area they live in.  That is always painful for me.

Dec 31

New Year’s Eve! To be honest it didn’t feel like it.  Mainly because my comp for the day was sick (we did exchanges) and so i stayed in which was nice but man I need to do something this week! Hahahaha I’m craving missionary work.  Next week when all the leaving missionaries have gone and we are back to normal it will be good.  Ethiopia is not a place that you can go on a mission and then just pack up and leave.  There are documents and processes that must take place.  My companion from the MTC still has not made it to Ethiopia.  His visa has not been approved.  Zimbabwe and Ethiopia governments do not work well together and that has slowed him and one other elder getting to our mission.

Happy new year!!! It was an amazing day for missionary work! We met with Abraham again! It was truly beautiful to hear his testimony about the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith! Beautiful! Then we went to go see a member family up in Entoto which is up the mountain from the city. It was nice to see them. We got fed!  One thing about Ethiopia is members will always feed you whether you like it or not. It is part of the culture here.

We had Zone conference, which was nice! I realized that I need to work on lots of rules that I was beating around the bush and really consecrate myself to the Lord. I have realized that when I do this, I feel a lift off my shoulders. So, I knew I did something good. But not before the spirit bashing me all night.... We are good tho.

UNIVERSITY BRANCH FAMILY FUN DAY! It was a wonderful day! It was awesome to see so many people show up and be so present and share questions about the Lord. We had so much fun playing games and being together! After the activity Elder England wanted to go see someone with an AP JHONSONNNNN! (he hates it when you call him that) anyway, we just did an exchange. I got to go out with Elder Goodrich, and we had some amazing conversations! He’s a great AP, and so long story short I didn’t get home until around 11 o’clock PM.  That doesn’t hardly ever happen here.  But we are safe.

January 4

Welp, IT’s MY BIRTHDAY!  Today was Sunday so we did not really do anything crazy! We just helped some church members and made sure everything was set for the two Elders in my apartment to leave. My comps got me cake and energy drinks 😭 they know me so well hahahahahaha.  They sang Happy Birthday to me.  We had the Sunday Miracle call (The Sunday zoom with the entire mission) and one of the Elders said “Hey, it is a miracle that Adam is having a Birthday in Ethiopia” But all in all an amazing birthday, tomorrow, Monday we are going to go do more things and go to Marcus Addis which is the nicest restaurant in the city for my Birthday.  Marcus is a NY chef that was adopted from Ethiopia and came back with his Ethiopian wife and started a restaurant here in Ethiopia.  It is on top for the highest building in the country.

My companions showing me the Ethiopia energy drinks they bought me for my birthday!
